TODO

AI-enhanced web app that helps and motivates users to complete tasks and habits.

First of all, why do I want to create this project?

As remote study and work became commonplace, many of us found ourselves with more free time. But how best to use them? This transition, and the challenge of managing unexpected free time, drove my passion to create TO DO. It's more than just an app; it's a tool designed to help people structure their day, cultivate healthy habits, and truly make the most of every moment at home.

What makes TODO different?

  1. As a task planner, TODO goes beyond mere work and assignments.

  2. It also embraces moments that matter in daily life — from building habits and diving into books to fitting in workouts and managing household tasks.

  3. TODO's built-in social features ensure users stay connected and motivated, sharing tasks, forging connections, and drawing inspiration every step of the way.

What I want to achieve

  • A user-friendly application for organizing daily tasks

  • Encouraging users to develop and sustain healthy habits

So, how can I identify user needs and pain points?

What are the key insights I aim to extract from the research?

  • Who are the target users, and what are their needs, goals, and pain points?

  • How do users currently plan and organize their daily tasks and habits?

  • What motivates users to consistently follow their plans?

Now, let’s get to know the users

Methodology
User Interviews: I will be interviewing people with questions.

Screening Question
Have you planed your daily tasks? (Expecting Yes)
Is it okay if I take about 15 minutes to ask you some questions? (Expecting Yes)

Introduction
Hi, thank you so much for accepting this interview with me. This interview is about the user research for my daily tasks app that I am working on. So, in the following interview, I will ask you a few questions and if you have any concerns please let me know!

Concluding Notes
Thank you so much for your time, this is all of my questions. I really appreciate your help in providing your thoughts on my project! And if you have any questions or ideas to add on, please let me know.

What did the participants say?

Questions:
1, Do you create a daily schedule? If so, how do you plan your day, and what challenges have you encountered in accessing and following this schedule?
(To understand how users create daily schedules and the obstacles they face when trying to access and follow their plans.)

2, Do you consistently follow the schedules you create? Why or why not?
(To explore users' commitment to the plans they make and understand the reasons behind their adherence or lack thereof.)

3, What motivates you to stay on track with your plan and maintain productivity?
(To identify factors that encourage users to stick to their plans and remain productive.)

4, What are the common reasons or situations that lead you to deviate from your plan?
(To uncover the causes that prompt users to abandon their tasks and fail to follow their plans.)

What’s the insight? What did I learn?

Who will use our product?

Who exactly are they?

Then, how are our competitors performing?

Here's What I Picked Up from the Competitors

Let’s begin to design, start with the structure

Sketching the vision with low to mid-fidelity wireframes

Gathering feedback to refine the design

Test Scope

I'll test all the use cases using the mid-fidelity wireframes with 3 participants.

Goals

  1. To test whether users can complete the tasks.

  2. To identify problems and areas of confusion encountered by participants.

  3. To gather suggestions and areas for improvement.

Methodology

  • Utilizing Zoom for a remote user testing experience, ensuring convenience and real-time interaction.

What insights were gathered from the testing?

Task 1: Create a new task with TODO Intelligent Assistant

Task 2: Users can use the focus mode page to help them focusing on the task then share it to the community.

Task 3: Users can explore both habits shared by other users and recommended habits.

What I learned from this project

Key Takeaways from the Project

  1. Engaging with Potential Users is Crucial: Interviews and discussions with potential users were invaluable. Their insights, ideas, and highlighted pain points were instrumental in both defining and refining the project.

  2. The Power of Communication: This project reinforced the importance of effective communication throughout the design process. Not only did I hone my skills in gleaning insights from interviews, but I also improved in articulating challenges and design concepts to my peers.

  3. The Importance of Planning: Having a clear roadmap of subsequent tasks is beneficial. In this project, by outlining key milestones and findings, I bolstered my confidence and saw an uptick in my efficiency.

  4. Web Application Design Experience: This project allowed me to further practice and refine my skills in web application design.

What's Next for TODO:

  1. Enriching Community Features: The goal is to introduce more features that amplify community engagement, such as allowing users to post stories or insights related to their habits.

  2. Boosting User Interactivity: I aim to foster more user interaction, such as enabling users to invite others for group habits or challenges.
